MEASURE. If the curtain will hang inside the window frame on a tension rod, measure width and length inside the window frame. If it will hang outside the window frame on a projection rod, measure outside, including wood trim, and include the "return"-the distance the rod projects into the room at both sides. Rule of thumb: 1-1/2 times window width

Example: 36 inch wide window would require a yard and a half.
